In many cases, there are also laboratory abnormalities such as elevated tumor markers whose significance remains uncertain. It is often difficult to understand the multitude of treatment options and to find one&#8217;s bearings in a short space of time. This is particularly the case when many different forms of therapy, such as surgery, radiotherapy and drug therapy, are to be used in variying sequences.  <\/p>\n<p>Some people also feel that they have not understood everything discussed with their doctors, are in doubt and want to find confirmation that the chosen course of action is the right one.<\/p>\n<p>Many patients, therefore, also wish a second opinion or more detailed information from a cancer expert about modern treatment methods, some of which are only available in clinical trials.<\/p>\n<p>Obtaining a second opinion is not an attack on your primary treating physicians and it should not cause them disappointment if you chose to persue this option. It is a fundamental right of every patient, especially in an often life-threatening situation. It can bring clarity, a better understanding and acceptance of recommended therapies, or potentially inform about cutting-edge treatment methods based on the latest scientific knowledge.  <\/p>\n\n <strong>Salzburg Cancer Research Institute-Center for Clinical Cancer and Immunology Trials (SCRI-CCCIT)<\/strong>, where I serve as a I am the scientific director. The institute conducts these studies at the III Medical University Clinic under a framework agreement with SALK. To date, more than 12,000 patients have participated in trials and clinical programs, addressing over 87 different types of cancer.  <\/p>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n class=\"ce-textblock__text\">\n                        <p>There are currently 90 clinical trials open \u2013 56 of which are dedicated solely to the immunotherapy of cancer, lymphomas and leukemias. These treatments are neither commercially available nor accessible outside the framework of clinical trials. <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n
